Practical diagram guide
PathwayFig questions: templates, AI images, credits, and exports
PathwayFig combines an editable template canvas with optional AI image drafts. These are different workflows, and each needs human review.

What is PathwayFig?
PathwayFig is a browser tool for editing scientific pathway diagram templates and creating optional AI image drafts. It helps prepare visual explanations; it does not verify biological mechanisms or replace subject-matter review.
Can I try the editor without paying?
Yes. You can explore and edit the built-in diagram templates before making a purchase. Optional AI generation depends on account access, available credits, and service configuration; a free template does not imply free AI generation.
Can I edit the labels inside an AI-generated image?
AI generation returns a raster image. It is separate from the template canvas and is not automatically decomposed into editable proteins, arrows, or labels. The template canvas supports editing its own nodes and connections.
Which formats are available?
The template canvas exports SVG and PNG. AI drafts are downloaded as their original image files. Layered PDF, EPS, and TIFF exports are not included.
How do credits work?
AI generation requires credits on your account. Check the current pricing section for package quantities and availability before purchasing. Editing a built-in template is separate from an AI generation request. Do not assume that a displayed package can be purchased while checkout is unavailable.
Is a generated diagram automatically scientifically accurate?
No. Check every molecule, label, interaction, and compartment against your own references. AI can add unsupported interactions or incorrect labels. Templates are starting points and also require review for your specific research context.
Does payment include a guarantee of journal acceptance?
No. Publication rules depend on the journal, how the figure was created, the purpose of the figure, and the rights to its contents. Check the target journal’s AI and artwork policies, make required disclosures, and get editorial guidance when needed.
What should I include in a mechanism prompt?
Include the organism or cell type, required molecules, a list of activation and inhibition relationships, cellular compartments, layout, and a legend for uncertainty. Omit private or unpublished material that you are not authorized to share with an external generation service.
